Frequently Asked Questions

How many members will be in The Tribe?

In order to foster an intimate and supportive environment where each member is seen and heard equally, each Tribe will have 8-10 members. Having smaller groups allows me, as the facilitator, to provide ample support to each member.

How are The Tribes created?

When you sign up for the program, you will fill out a profile sheet. This profile will help me to get to know you better and what you are hoping to gain from your experience in the program. Based on these profiles, I will determine the individual Tribes, trying to be mindful of interests, location, and age.

Are The Tribes co-ed?

Yes. In these Tribes, we want to support healthy communication between all genders. We learn and grow more as individuals when we are able to listen to a diverse population. However, I realize there are sensitive topics that may come up throughout the program and for those topics, I will facilitate gender specific calls and invite special guest facilitators if needed.

Is The Tribe anonymous?

The Tribe will be a closed Facebook group where only the members can see what is posted. However, it is up to the individual if they want to further connect with members outside the Facebook group whether that is becoming FB “friends,” following each other on other social media outlets, etc. It is not required though.

Social media can sometimes be used to perpetuate negativity and bullying. How will The Tribe be different?

One of The Tribe’s primary purposes is to create a safe and supportive environment where members feel comfortable to fully be themselves. Trust is the foundation for such an environment. There will be clear guidelines that each member (and their parents) agree to upon entering The Tribe. Bullying, sharing content outside of the group, and improper use of social media will not be tolerated. If a member does not adhere to the guidelines, they will be asked to leave The Tribe with no refund. When used properly, social media can help to bring people together, to create supportive and meaningful relationships, and as a source for information. The Tribe will be a place where members are learning to use social media in this uplifting and positive way.

Are The Tribes confidential? What happens if a member is triggered deeply by a topic?

The Tribes are confidential in order to continue building an environment of trust and support. Members will not be allowed to share personal information, comments, or content about other individuals outside of the group. However, if a member starts showing signs that they may be a danger to themselves or others in any way, I will contact the parents immediately keeping in line with policies that schools maintain. I am a trained coach not a therapist. The Tribe is not a place to treat or diagnose a serious illness and in that case the member and their family should seek outside help.

Why is the program only 8 months long? Can I join or leave the group at any time throughout the program?

The program is 8 months long to coincide with the school year calendar. The tools and methods we will be working with align perfectly with overcoming academic obstacles, social anxiety, and creating an overall balance for wellness. During the summer, many people are traveling or at camp and therefore wouldn’t be able to get the most out of the program. You must join the program at the start date (Oct 1st). If for some reason, you choose to leave The Tribe, you are welcome to make that choice, however,  you will not be refunded. It is important to maintain the structure of the group throughout the program in order to really achieve the level of trust and support we are going for. In addition, real change happens over a period of time and so committing to the full 8 months is highly recommended. However, there is an Intro Package where you can commit to 3 months and then choose to continue from there.
